The Living Word
We might be able to quote Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and active…, but let us never settle for merely quoting scripture when the Lord has called it sharper than any two-edged sword.
Holy Spirit is such a genius.
Consider these two statements, written by His friend - the Apostle John, from his personal account of the life of Jesus and the sequel, the book of Revelation:
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1)
- Now I saw heaven opened, and behold – epic description of Jesus – His name is called The Word of God.
What a powerful way to bookend the beauty, majesty, and glory that is Jesus - The Word.
But let’s not forget the role of scripture throughout history.
Remember what the Lord said through Moses to Israel’s future leaders in Deuteronomy:
And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law… And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life…
Consider how David, a man after God's own heart, cherished The Word in Psalm 19:
- The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;
- The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple
We might be able to quote Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and active…, but let us never settle for merely quoting scripture when the Lord has called it sharper than any two-edged sword.
Remember
Set aside some time to reflect on your relationship with The Word over the years.
- How has The Living Word shaped your life?
- When were you most genuinely curious?
- When has it come alive and impacted you?
When you think of an impactful time, write it down. But don’t stop there, take some time to remember - remember how it felt and how you were moved.
If you haven't already, put a summary in your GodSpeaks app. Don’t worry about getting the date perfect if you don’t remember. Never let insignificant details keep you from remembering the moment.
Live Now
- How is the Word living and active in your life right now?
- How is it anchoring you?
Whether you are in a season of genuine and sustained curiosity, or you’ve settled for less than the Lord’s full invitation, anticipate the Father’s goodness through His Word this week. Commit to spending a little extra time ready or listening to scripture and see what the Lord might do. When you experience His presence beyond the pages - in joy, hope, peace, conviction, or whatever it looks like, record it in GodSpeaks and let us remind you :).
